Business Value from IT
Virgin Care currently provides over 100 NHS services nationwide with a focus on community and primary healthcare. This is done by working in partnership with a range of organisations and investing time and money to develop high-quality NHS services.
The Virgin Care group has enjoyed significant growth as a consequence of winning Primary Care contracts in both Surrey and Devon. Virgin Care were using RiO, delivered through the National Programme as their patient record system and were contractually bound to upgrade from R1 to R2. This was a major release and would require identifying the new functionality to roll out as well as training all end users (around 1200).
On arrival, the project was running 6 weeks behind schedule and it was looking unlikely that Virgin Care would be in a position to meet the requirements of the scheduled gateway review. A project board was convened during which project tolerances were agreed with the Project Manager and an approach of management by exception was agreed. A structured approach was then applied for both the project management and change management activities. One additional responsibility was that the project team had to capture and report the clinical benefits to an independent body the HSCIC (Health & Social Care Information Centre).
The project was re-planned and back on track in time for the first gateway review. The following outcomes were achieved:
“Virtrium’s proven project management and change management experience ensured we got strong buy-in from all stakeholders and delivered the benefits on time and under budget”
