Matthew Clark – Delivering a New IT Strategy

Matthew Clark are an award‐winning drinks supplier who offer  an unrivalled range of over 4,000 drink products including Champagne, wine, spirits, beers and soft drinks to their nationwide customer base of hotels, pubs, clubs and restaurants.


Producing a new IT Strategy that transformed IT Services and Governance

Matthew Clark had previously received IT Services from a parent company. As a result of the parent company’s change of ownership there was a requirement to create its own IT Services operation. This was a significant challenge as many of the staff, assets and contractual arrangements were in the parent company and had been organised with objectives that did not support the future business needs of Matthew Clark.

Matthew Clark needed an IT Strategy that met its customer needs and allowed IT to be a  business enabler for growth. The scope of the Strategy included transformation of the IT   Services and their Governance as well as the technology and roadmaps for future Matthew Clark IT Services.

Starting with Matthew Clark’s Business strategy the Virtrium team interviewed key stakeholders from the main board, the functional management and the IT operational staff. To give structure to their delivery the Virtrium team employed

a tailored framework to create Matthew Clark’s IT strategy that used relevant best practice areas of COBIT, ITIL and ITGI frameworks and built on the experience of the team.

The delivery of the new IT Strategy included a series of roadmaps for the People, the Technology and the Assets to achieve both the transition of IT operations into Matthew Clark from the sister company and the transformational improvement of their IT Services.

A successful transition of IT Operations in-house

Matthew Clark continues to execute their IT Strategy and is using IT to actively support business initiatives. During the period of intense business change they progressed the

transition of the IT operations into their own business with help from Virtrium. This achievement was built on Virtrium’s operational expertise and programme leadership alongside a Matthew Clark team within a change programme that contained projects to: migrate assets; organise IT operations; manage the change pro-actively; and maintain business as usual support.
