Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer – Delivery of digital transformation with hybrid cloud

Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer (Freshfields) is a leader among international law firms, providing business law advice of the highest quality across Europe, the Middle East, Asia and the U.S. With over 4,500+ staff in over 30 key business centres around the world, providing comprehensive services to national and multinational corporations, financial institutions and governments.

The Challenge

Freshfields had developed a strategy to make increased use of ‘Cloud’ services to leverage commodity service platforms to underpin the Digital Transformation of the business. Operating within a highly regulated sector meant that security and risk management were paramount in the integration of these services into the business operations.

Virtrium’s Approach

Virtrium developed a Hybrid Cloud strategy for Freshfields that delivered Private Cloud capabilities in-house to meet regulatory requirements, using an extensible architecture to include Public Cloud capabilities within an overarching security and management framework. Once accepted, Virtrium were requested to manage procurement exercises for:

  1. Highly connected, resilient and secure Data Centre services;
  2. Compute, Storage and Network technologies – to build a Private Cloud capability;
  3. The Design, Build and Testing of Services – to assist Freshfields in the implementation of the Private Cloud and the integration of Public Cloud services with handover to operations;
  4. The Supply and Configuration of Automation, Orchestration & Management Information Services – including integration with tools and services already in use by Freshfields.

Virtrium deployed a team of subject matter experts to help draft the Request For Proposal (RFP) requirements, leveraging their extensive experience in the design and implementation of these services for other clients.

The Outcomes

The Virtrium team managed the procurement process for Freshfields utilising our best practice approach to manage timescales, clarifications and deliver an auditable end to end process. Specifically, Virtrium delivered:

  1. RFP’s that clearly enunciated the current state and future state requirements, allowing suppliers to fully understand the Freshfields strategies;
  2. Management of all supplier communications, logging and tracking these, from the initial Expressions Of Interest to final selection of Preferred Suppliers;
  3. In conjunction with Freshfields, a formal evaluation of supplier responses against all requirements – technical, commercial and cultural – across the entire procurement lifecycle.
